Product Description

At the heart of every great rock and roll band lie four essential elements: bass, drums, guitars and vocals. That, in its purest essence, is JET. And JET, in their purest essence, have again captured those elements with their third album, Shaka Rock. With their previous releases- 2003's Get Born and 2006's Shine On- JET broke out of their native Australia and established themselves as a multi-platinum, international success story, merging the charisma and energy of classic rock and roll with just enough punk swagger and contemporary flair to create something uniquely theirs. Here at last is a band that's returning the cool to rock and roll. 2009's Shaka Rock reveals new dimensions of JET while never losing the raw roots of Get Born or the grace and melody of Shine On, which together went on to make JET an international band of style and substance.180 Gram LP contains a vinyl only BONUS track "One Hipster One Bullit." LP also includes full-length CD.REVIEW: CBS Radio "...Rock explodes out of the gate with big guitars and even bigger ambitions..."

I fell in love with this band, because they were such a mixture of genres, rock, pop, funk. They were something I considered unpredictable and in music, that is a rarity. They've often been called the modern day Beatles.Track by Track quick feelings:This album starts off with the funk/rock "K.I.A"....funky bass, clear retro guitar and a big back beat, then comes "Beat on Repeat", clapping hands and vocals over a nice bass line and beat, this song isn't as rich as some of Jet's other it has a simple feel and comes in really short at 2:30."She's a Genius" a very traditional Jet song, high octane fuel with a driving chorus and beat. I am pretty sure this will become a single, it has it written all over it. I dig it, feels like the Jet I remember from their two previous albums, which were "Genius"."Black Hearts":, That bright clear guitar is through this entire album and it shows up in this song as a driving force. Pre-chorus is warm and the "clapping hands" are that retro part of Jet that I dig."Seventeen" is a song I would describe as Jet on parade, piano line opens and then into a warm pre-chorus, this is a bright song."La di Da" Faster tempo with a rambling type vocal. My least favorite, but this could change, as you know a new album often times morphs over several months and that could change!"Goodbye Hollywood" I think this is more traditional Jet, the organ in the pre-chorus being the only instrument with the vocal, is sort of the retro feel that they have that makes them special. This song has a solid feel to it, a bit of a slower tempo."Walk" Slow, piano, Jets emotional train ride for this album. It doesn't compare in my opinion to songs like Kings Horses and Shine On, but it's good."Times Like This" I liked the lyrics on this one, but it felt extremely similar to every other song on this album, I don't think there is as clear a picture from song to song as on their previous albums."Let Me Out" This had an 80's feel to it for me, as if it were written for a John Hughes film (R.I.P.) and all those tunes were epic in their own, lyrically. Strong song."Start the Show" Jet goes ACDC. Rock."She Holds a Grudge" This is the Jet I remember.OVERALL: This is not Jet's strongest album in my estimation. Musically it is similar from song to song as opposed to each song being a separate portrait as their previous albums, this album feels like more of a album piece, all linked. Which can be a good thing for some and a bad thing for others. I give it 5 stars because it is good, even though I prefer their first two records to this latest effort. They are unique enough in music to be someone who deserves recognition. If you are thinking about checking them out, I beg you to buy their first two albums first.Great band.
